Seabed Processes in the Nearshore Gippsland Basin: Field Survey Reports and Metadata for MV Bluefin and SECA Voyages
Abstract
Offshore Gippsland (Victoria) is widely recognised as one of the most attractive basins for Carbon Capture Storage (CCS) in Australia, with its proximity to large fossil fuel resources and promising geological storage. The CarbonNet project has been established to investigate the potential for a capture and storage network, aiming to inject up to 125 million tonnes of CO2 over 25 years into nearshore reservoirs in the Gippsland Basin. To understand any unusual or unique features within the coastal waters of Gippsland Basin area in the vicinity of the proposed CarbonNet geological storage project, CSIRO was commissioned to undertaken a number of field surveys as part of the Seabed processes in the Nearshore Gippsland Basin contract 7-1115-0250 between Australian National Low Emissions Coal Research and Development (ANLEC R&D) and CSIRO. This report represents the milestone 3 deliverable of the contract. Two surveys were undertaken, a five day survey on MV Bluefin in December 2017 and a second 4 days survey in early April 2018 on the day vessel SECA 2. This report details the two voyages completed by CSIRO along with associated metadata.
